INTERPOL

This is a painting of a band called "Interpol." I started this painting in September after seeing them play at the Curiosa show in Cincinnati. I've posted a few scraps---this project has been a challenge and has taken a lot of work. Usually I paint things in one sitting or, at most, one weekend (I have 4 half-done paintings at home). This one sat around half-done for months until I got back from a trip to Charleston, SC this weekend and decided I was inspired enough to finish it.
Interpol had this absolutely HUGE sound, like they would have sounded just as good from 5 feet away as they would from a dozen blocks away. The title is from their album "Turn on Your Bright Light," which I always thought was such a cool title, and their sound was so big that I made the city lights their audience, and the sky is what I remembered it looking like when they got on stage that night.

Also, I've swapped out some of the paintings at Christopher Park Gallery downtown in the west end. Take a look, this place is incredible.

A familiar subject, beautifully rendered: Turn On Your Bright Light by *greydawg. This painting, like so many others in this deviant's gallery, defines a scene with vibrant color. (Suggested by ~bennettua and Featured by `oedalis)

I'm so glad you finished this, didn't know how long you would wait. I had no idea that THIS was what was in your head, I saw something completely different halfway through. Great titile, great idea, great bg, great lighting, and I love band art.

this is really really well done. I love the use of colors. Your are truely an amazing artist, although, I wish you'd put them in without capret or anything being shown. I know, i know, you can't, too big. Either way, I love your work.

Thanks ;) I agree, I don't like having crappy pictures of my deviations. But I have a day job during the week and usually paint during the weekends, finishing up on Sunday night. Well, when I'm done the only place to take a picture is inside (which means crummy pics)---by the time I get home from work (this time of year) it's too dark to take a good picture outside in the sunlight.
But I usually end up taking better pictures on the weekend in the sunlight and update my deviations with those pictures. I'll definitely do that with this one this weekend.
Thanks again!

Heheheh, thanks man. Yeah, this one took forever. It took 4 sittings, which I don't really like to do. But now I can get rid of those damn scraps.
Glad ya dig--thanks again for the fave add.

I might be able to take a better pic today after work IF I can get home before the sun sets. We'll see...

:icongreydawg:
Awesome--thanks! Are you an Interpol fan? I really want to do more of these after I see a band live, but this one took a ton of work and a bunch of way-too-long breaks, took me a long time to finish but I'm glad it's done.
Thanks again ;)
